The inaugural Reef to Reef four-day MTB stage race has just finished in Cairns, Australia. And, we were there to tackle the event.
Day One “The Smithfield MTB Park offered some challenging climbs with fun flowing trials and a few technical descents. Something for everyone, we were in the bin towards the end of the 20km time trial.”
Day Two “These are the misadventures of our day; we started with a poorly managed time schedule, which meant we piled into our Jucy Rental and pegged it to the start line, only to arrive 10mins late! Jucy have pickup locations in Cairns which made life super easy. We kitted up and embarked on our ride trying to make up some time. The trails were flowing singletrack, and as the day went on we started to get into our groove. While we were railing the berms in the last section the taste of beer must have been too strong as we both crashed. We walked away from them with a broken rib and some grazes, but nothing a cold one couldn’t fix.”
Day Three “After staying at the National Hotel we munched some Weetbix and headed out for the day. Broken bodies didn’t worry us too much as we tackled the longest stage of the race. Of course, we finished up back at the Mount Molloy National Hotel for a pint and a toastie.”
Day Four “Today we tackle the infamous bump track. But first, a few brews to prepare for the day ahead. After negotiating our way down the bump track and through a few creek crossings - we made it through the adventure. We’re packing up and heading home.”
Stay tuned, we’ll be delivering more of this adventure online and in Issue #91.
